Mark Tribe and The Port Huron Project

Angela-30-3-small.jpg

These are based on collages I made while working on the Port Huron Project. I scan the collages, modify them on a computer, print them out at original size, and mount them on board. The result: layers of mediation in a trompe-l'oeil package. - Mark Tribe

The Port Huron Project will exhibit at LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions) this Tuesday, October 20 - January 24, 2010. The Port Huron Project was a series of reenactments of protest speeches from the New Left movements of the Vietnam era. Each speech took place at the site of the original event, and was delivered by an actor or performance artist to an audience of invited guests and passers-by. Videos of these performances have been screened on campuses, exhibited in art spaces, and distributed online as open-source media. See more here
